Cherub Choir - Lakeview United Church
3200 McCallum Avenue, Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, S4S 0R8 (306) 586-7844
Basic Information
-
Ages - Generally 3 to 7 years old, both girls and
boys. We have had children as young as 2.5 years but these are the
exception. We also have a few who linger until age 8 or 9.
-
Practices - Friday 4:30 to 5:00 p.m. each week from
early September until well into June.
-
Worship - The choir sings early in the worship service
every 4 or 5 weeks. Most songs are short so we usually prepare two
songs to sing back to back.
-
Membership - The number of children has varied over
the years from as few as 10 to over 30. We like to have at least
20 to allow for absences.
-
Accompaniment - I accompany the practices and worship
presentations on an accordion with a treble setting. This provides
a light support to the voices without covering them. We have seen
other instruments work well too - mainly guitar or piano.
-
Direction - Margaret directs the choir, mouthing the
words, prompting where necessary and encouraging the children to sing out
and enunciate clearly.
-
Learning - is by rote. The songs are introduced
at the practices and worked on each week until they are presented in worship.
We prepare practice sheets so that parents can help the children with the
words between practices. In recent, years we have also made practice
CDs that can be used throughout the week to reinforce the melody and the
words. We also have mp3s on the site that can be accessed directly.
